Christmas Calendar, Day 19: Breaking Through Cyber Locks
Who are you, and what do you do at F-Secure?
I’m Tomi Tuominen, also known as T. I’m the Practice Leader for two practice lines of F-Secure’s Cyber Security Services division; Technical Security Consultancy and Cyber Intelligence. I’ve been in the business for more than 20 years, specializing in computer intrusions and incident investigations. I joined the company when F-Secure acquired nSense in 2015. I am a gentleman hacker and a security geek – I’m also passionate about mountains and snowboarding.
What was the most memorable cyber security event / incident in 2017, and what should companies learn from it?
The most memorable event was breaking into an “unbreakable, completely secure facility” protected by the best “cyber locks on the planet”. It might be true that the world is an oyster, but it should be protected like an onion 😉
What are the most important trends that you believe we will see impact cyber security in the next 3-5 years?
- AI based attack platforms will become known to the general public
- Lack of solid IoT security will cause large scale damage somewhere
- A proper virtual currency will be established and it won’t be bitcoin. This will have a huge impact on the monetization model for the bad guys
What are your top 3 tips for companies looking at improving their cyber security in 2018 and beyond?
- Invest in good people
- Invest in good people
- Invest in good people
What’s on your wish list to Santa Claus this year?
- See Penn and Teller live
- See O.G come up with even more ridiculous ownage during 2018
- Find a good mentor to teach me card tricks
- Not to break any bones during the 2018 snowboard season
Are you planning to make any work-related New Year’s resolutions?
No.
What’s your favorite information source on cyber security?
Twitter. I follow interesting and talented individuals, people who are not necessarily that well-known outside hacker circles, but are just totally hardcore.
If you’d have to recommend people follow one cyber security influencer, who would she/he be?
Whoa. This is a tough one. I have to name one of my all time favorite hackers: Michał Zalewski.
Thank you for taking part Tomi, and we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
