Christmas Calendar, Day 5: A Researcher’s Wish List to Santa
Who are you and what do you do at F-Secure?
I’m Andy. I’m a researcher in F-Secure’s “Security Research and Technologies” organization.
What’s on your wish list to Santa Claus this year?
I know I won’t get any of this, but here goes:
- A fully-loaded iMac Pro. I could really use some extra power for prototyping and training some of the neural net models I’ve been playing with recently.
- Access to the Twitter firehose. I’m sure there are many interesting hidden patterns in all that data 🙂
- More hours in the day.
Are you planning to make any work-related New Year’s resolutions?
I don’t do New Year’s resolutions, but I do have a checklist that I review every now and then. It’s there to remind me what I should be doing (writing articles, learning new things, communicating efficiently, etc.)
What has been the most interesting project you’ve worked on at F-Secure? Tell us a bit about it.
A few years ago, we started a project codenamed “Ultralight”. The aim of the project was to re-engineer and modernize our endpoint protection technologies and to implement cloud-scanning mechanisms. What was really great was the creativity that surfaced once we realized what could be accomplished as part of this project. A lot of really good new ideas emerged that we hadn’t even thought about before, and since then, a lot of those ideas have been implemented. It was an example of solid collaboration between multiple teams.
