We Work Together and Back Each Other Up

This is a guest post by F-Secure fellow Ruediger Trost.

What’s it like to work at F-Secure? For me, it’s about delivering as a team.

Being a Sales Engineer means that I have to work closely with Account Managers and the Inside Sales teams, as we do most of our customer meetings together. This setup allows each of us to focus on our strengths, so cooperation is key. While Sales takes care of the licensing details, we do the technical evaluation. But that does not mean, that we are two separate teams. We work together and back each other up.

Our marketing creates material for partners and customers, and the Sales Engineer is an important part of this process. We check the technical details and bring up new ideas. In addition, we collaborate with the product management team on a regular basis. When customers have requests and wishes, we collect them for future development.

The best part of the job is the freedom that fellows at F-Secure enjoy. I can plan my workday independently and if I have a new idea, nobody will stop me trying it. Quite the contrary, you get all the support you need. Awesome!

Every day I’m reminded that I’m part of both a company and an industry that’s expanding rapidly, becoming more and more important to society.

“Cybercrime damages are predicted to cost the world $6 trillion annually by 2021, up from $3 trillion in 2015,” CSO recently reported. “The world is expected to spend more than $1 trillion cumulatively over the next five years on cybersecurity products and services aimed at combating hacks and breaches.”

Back in 2005, I started with F-Secure in the German country office as a Presales Consultant. The role combines both sales and technical view on things, which was very exciting coming from a 100% technical job as system engineer. I was specialized in IT security and going to a well-respected company like F-Secure was a logical step for me and my professional career.

Now, I lead a team of 5 Presales Consultants responsible for Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

If a customer is interested in F-Secure´s solutions, my team and myself explain all the technical features and help them to implement it into their network. All networks are different, so every day means another challenge! There are new threats every day, so you constantly learn new things.

At F-Secure, we strive to maintain a very friendly culture; there hardly are any boundaries between the business lines. Everybody has an open door, which drives cooperation.

Every customer is different, and I learned to carefully listen before I start giving tips – most of the administrators have a lot of on their plate and endpoint protection is just one part of it. They appreciate help from an expert who makes sure their specific needs are taken into account.

After more than 11 years, I still go to the office with a smile, even if it is a Monday morning. It probably helps that I spend my off hours pursuing my other passion — photography. It is important for me to have a hobby which has nothing to do with cyber security.

If you’re interested in working in an environment that can help bring out your best, we’re hiring an Inside Sales Representative and a Channel Marketing Specialist to work out of our Munich office. You can find all of our current openings worldwide here.
